Problems updating DaVinci Resolve to version 19.1.2

The recent update to DaVinci Resolve 19.1.2 has caused unexpected problems for users, especially those who heavily use third-party transitions and effects in their projects. The update brought changes to how Fusion handles files, making many third-party transitions and titles incompatible.

The main problem

Third-party transitions and effects previously located in the folder:

C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates

no longer work properly. While DaVinci Resolve's built-in transitions work without issues, third-party effects, especially those created in the .setting format, either do not display or cause errors when added to the timeline. Users have also noticed that Fusion is missing the MediaIn and MediaOut nodes, making it impossible to use such transitions.

What difficulties did users encounter?

1. Black screen instead of transition : When adding third-party transitions to the timeline, a black screen appears instead of the expected effect.

2. Fusion Node Errors : Transitions open in Fusion with missing MediaIn and MediaOut nodes, causing them to not work.

3. Transitions not showing up in the Effects Library : Some transitions and titles have simply disappeared from the Effects panel.

4. Unable to install old files : .setting files that previously worked are no longer compatible with the new version of DaVinci Resolve.

These issues are especially painful for those who rely on customized transitions and titles in commercial projects, as they require significant time to fix or adapt.

What has changed?

In version 19.1.2, DaVinci Resolve has tightened its file structure and format checking to ensure compatibility with the new effects management system. This has resulted in the need to adapt existing files and transitions to the new standard. The main requirement is now to package transitions and titles in the .drfx format, which ensures that effects are recognized correctly.

How did we solve the problem?

To simplify the transition of users to the new format, we have developed a Python script packed into an .exe file, which:

1. Analyzes your Templates folder, including all subfolders ( Transitions , Titles , Effects , Generators ).

2. Creates the correct structure for packaging.

3. Packages files in .drfx format, which is compatible with the latest versions of DaVinci Resolve.

4. Outputs step-by-step progress to the console, including copying and creating an archive.

How to use our script?

1. Download our archive recraw_drfx_converter.zip, unzip the .EXE script and place it in the Fusion\Templates folder. full path C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve\Support\Fusion\Templates

2. Run the recraw_drfx_converter.exe script - it will automatically create a .drfx file with your transitions.

3. Double-click the created file to install it into DaVinci Resolve. Important: Close DaVinci Resolve before doing this.
